Imam Ahmad Raza Khan (Rahamatullahi Alaihi) (1856-1921) was called the Reviver of Islam of his century, and worked all his life to defend Islam in the India of his day. One of the greatest threats to Islam at that time was the uncritical acceptance and worship of Western Science. In this book Imam Raza showed the superiority of Islam, and defended the community from panic, by rejecting forecasts of a huge natural disaster, made in 1919 by an American Professor, Albert F. Porta, which were based on alleged alignments of several planets with the Sun. Imam Ahmad Raza Khan was proved completely right, and Western Science was defeated!

To defeat Professor Porta, Imam Raza showed his great knowledge of Western Science, but also rejected the Heliocentric theory of the Cosmos, in favour of the traditional Islamic Geocentric concept. In this way Imam Raza was attacking the very roots of Western Science, and that gives this book its fundamental importance.

When the West came to dominate the Muslim World, many Muslims deserted Islam, and thought they would rise to the top of Western society by political campaigns and by getting good degrees at Western Universities , to get good jobs with the non-Muslims! In India these groups built non-Muslim Colleges and Universities, and went in for nationalistic campaigns, to get the mass of the Muslims behind them, especially by all manner of phoney “solidarity” campaigns with Muslims around the World, such as the Turks.

In this book Imam Ahmad Raza Khan proposed his solution. The solidarity campaigns achieved nothing. And the Muslims who tried to get good jobs with the non-Muslims were the subject of systematic prejudice and discrimination. The Muslims should, he thought, instead form their own society, as an island in the wider society, by handling all their own legal business themselves, by buying from and selling to each other, by forming their own Islamic Banks, and by developing Islamic Knowledge. This would develop a really Islamic Community, and the culture to develop it further. This policy of developing Islam as an island , had been the policy of Sunni Islam ever since the collapse of Islamic Rule with the decline of the Caliphate. Imam Raza thus continued a thousand year old tradition. As for sending money to the Turks, they should send the millions of rupees contributed to build a secular university!
